DIRECTING AN ORIGINAL TEN-MINUTE PLAY OR ONE-ACT

We are looking for a select number of outstanding student directors to direct original ten-minute plays and one-acts in our region!

Who Can Apply?

 

Student directors must be NOMINATED by a respondent who attended the student director’s production at their home college.  The production must be entered as an associate or participating production.Directors of ten minute plays are not eligible for nomination. After this nomination, the students must submit the following materials in order to be selected to direct an original One Act or one of the six ten-minute plays  that are rehearsed and performed at our regional festival in The Ten-Minute Play Festival (6X10s).

The application must include

A COVER SHEET (separate pdf)
• Director's Name
• College or University Affiliation
• Address
• Email
• Cell phone
• The best way to contact you over winter break
• The name of the play that you directed for KCACTF and dates
• The Name of the Faculty member who is writing your letter of recommendation and his/her email address

IMPORTANT NOTE: Student directors should not include the name of their home institution on any other application materials, including the letter of recommendation. The student directors should have their names ONLY on all supporting documents.

A LETTER OF NOMINATION from a faculty member detailing the directing accomplishments and potential of the student director nominated.

•Affirm the student director’s availability for the Region 1 KCACTF Festival at the University of New Hampshire, January 26-31, 2010.

• Include a complete RESUME for the student directing nominee.  Please make sure the nominee’s email address is in the application materials. 

A LETTER OF APPLICATION from the student directing nominee, which includes why the student is interested in directing an original play at the regional festival and the ways in which they believe it may contribute to their growth as a director.

• It will be considered an advantage if a nominated student director has any experience working with new scripts. Nominees may be from two-year schools, four-year schools, or graduate programs.

Student directors may participate in both the SDC Showcase and the Ten-Minute Play Readings, but they need to state their wish to do so in the letter.  Please read the application directing guidelines for the SDC Showcase. 

Please do not include materials which must be returned.

The deadline for these applications to be RECEIVED is December 1, 2009

Student directors who are selected to direct at the regional festival will be contacted by email by December 15th.

REGION 1 FESTIVAL

Once a student has been selected to direct at the regional festival:

Student directors will each be assigned a student-written ten-minute play or one-act which has been selected to be a reading at the festival. Each student director will spend the week directing a READING of one of these plays working closely with the student playwright of their script. Auditioning and casting the production will happen at the festival.

At least one respondent will attend a working rehearsal during the regional festival.

All of these original plays will be presented in public readings.  

SPECIAL NOTE: This opportunity involves directing a
Ten-minute play or a One-Act at the regional festival.
The direction of the Ten-Minute plays or One-Acts does not result in a student director moving on to the national festival.
