Kennedy Center's New Visions/New Voices and Bonderman IUPUI National Youth Theatre Playwriting Development Workshop and Symposium

The playwright producing the winning script in the Anchorage Press Playwriting Award for Theatre for Youth will also receive a fellowship sponsored by the Children's Theatre Foundation of America to attend either the Kennedy Center’s New Visions/New Voices national conference or the Bonderman/IUPUI National Youth Theatre Symposium. The Kennedy Center’s New Visions/New Voices is a national forum for plays-in-progress for young audiences held in alternate years at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Playwrights and directors will rehearse and rewrite for five days, and staged readings are then presented to Forum attendees over a three-day period. The fellowship includes travel and housing. The Center casts, provides and pays for actors, stage manager, music directors, dramaturgical support, and production support.

The Waldo M. and Grace C. Bonderman IUPUI National Youth Theatre Playwriting Development Workshop and Symposium, founded in 1982, encourages playwrights to create artistic scripts for young audiences. The workshop provides a forum through which four writers selected via open submission participate in script development in collaboration with professional directors, dramaturgs, and actors. The process provides a means for playwrights to take their work to the next level of development. Their collaboration with the professional staff starts by mail and telephone and culminates in a week-long residency finalizing with a week-end of sharing the work at the Indiana Repertory Theatre with participants who attend the symposium. Excerpts from eight other selected plays are also presented along with the three panel discussions during the week-end.

The New Visions/New Voices program is held in alternate years. The winner of the Children's Theatre Foundation of America Fellowship recipient will attend the Bonderman program in those years when the New Visions/New Voices is not being offered.
