Ten-Minute Play Festival
6 X 10s
KCACTF Region I, 2007

Playwrights:

Submissions are being accepted for the annual KCACTF Region I Ten-Minute Play Festival (6X10s). Five new ten-minute plays will be staged at the Region I KCACTF Festival in January 2009. During the Festival you will meet your director, audition and cast actors, rehearse your play, collaborate with your designer, and see your play performed, all in the course of the five-day Festival.

GUIDELINES

  1. Plays can be no more than 10 pages in length (approximately 10 minutes).* Character names should be centered, single-spaced, with a double space between each character speaking. Stage directions should be indented at least ten spaces from the left-hand side of the page.

  2. Your play(s) must have at least two (2) characters but no more than eight (8).

  3. So we may assure anonymity in the selection process, please omit your name and your school affiliation on the play script itself. Type only the title and page number on each page.

  4. Enclose a cover letter from a faculty member of your department assuring us of your student status and listing your contact information (address, phone, etc.) and play title(s).

  5. Each playwright may submit no more than two (2) plays.

  6. Please send us FOUR copies of each script.

  7. Plays must be postmarked on or before November 1, 2007 and mailed to William Cunningham (see address below).

  8. A $20 entry fee in a check made payable to ACTF MGMT LTD-Region I is required for each play submitted ONLY IF your college has not entered a production in this year's festival. Mail the check to:

Kelly Morgan
Dept. of Theatre
Fitchburg State College
160 Pearl St.
Fitchburg MA 01420

The submitted plays will not be returned to you, nor will they be critiqued. However, you will receive a letter notifying you of your play's status in the Festival by early January, 2009.

Faculty Advisors/Student Directors:
At the 2009 Festival, student directors from six different schools will direct the plays and be assigned a faculty advisor. Student directors will be chosen from the student directors with entered productions from the year 2007. If you are a student director who has had an associate or participating entry, please send your resume and a letter of recommendation from a faculty member to at the address below. In addition, your KCACTF Respondents will also serve as a reference. One of these student directors will be selected each year to represent our region at the national festival at the Kennedy Center.

As in the past, scripts selected will be presented at the Regional festival. Each script will be directed by a theatre professional not associated with the playwright's school. Auditions will be held at the regional festival; all festival participants are eligible and encouraged to audition. Any faculty member interested in advising a Ten Minute Play student director should contact your Regional Chair, Kelly Morgan as soon as possible for consideration.
